Please be sure to spend the time to examine the science research and documents in the “categories” column to the right that outline the devestation that revetment or rock walls cause to pristine sand beaches. As well as the “learning from others mistakes” section. Revetments, or rip raps or rock walls may work in other circumstances but from the research we have discovered it appears they are never good ideas directly in front of sand beaches.
The latest SETC report, talking specifically about Victoria Beach confirms it further. “The SETC notes that the available information suggests that the construction of the shoreline protection work will likely lead to the lowering of the shore and beach adjacent to the works over time, with the potential for the beach to disappear completely.” Feb 18, 2011
